A 4' manual Flute of loud or moderately loud tone, constructed as open metal or wood pipes which sometimes resemble the Principal Flute. This is a solo and ensemble Flute of large scale and impressive tone, found in the Great, Swell or Solo division. It adds brilliance and considerable firmness to any other loud Reed or flue stops. The name has also indicated a large-scale stoppered rank of the same pitch.
